I enjoy sharing insights about writing and publishing books. I have been a faculty member for twenty years and twelve of those years I served as department chair. I look forward to supporting the next generation of scholars, particularly in race and gender studies or related fields in humanities and social sciences.
Workshops will highlight lessons I have learned from authoring three books and co-editing five. In workshops I will focus on:
- WELLNESS & BALANCE: identify four areas where faculty must manage stress in the writing and publishing process
- CAREER CONTEXT: offer perspective of a long-time department chair about how to centralize bookworking in your career (before and after promotion)
- FEEDBACK: provide general, high-level review of book proposals or manuscripts from the perspective of a series editor at a university press
- TIPS & RESOURCES: identify guides and strategies to demystify the publishing world and help you build relationships with communities and networks
*NOTE: I am a publishing consultant, specializing in one-time workshops for academic faculty who are interested in writing books for scholarly presses. I do not do individual coaching, ghost writing, copy editing, fiction, or individual developmental editing. No sessions should be recorded without my written permission.

BOOK PROPOSAL DISCUSSION, INDIVIDUAL SESSION
Brief assessment report and 1 hour discussion. Designed to get authors started/refocused on the main message, big picture, and develop plan to move forward.
BOOK MANUSCRIPT REVIEW, FACULTY PANELIST
Panels, usually hosted by university centers for faculty fellows. Discussion with other faculty to offer detailed feedback on completed manuscript draft.
SMALL GROUP BOOK WORKSHOPS, BRUNCH EDITION
Max 5 people, general, 2-hour discussion. Designed for established working groups. Perfect for independent peer-mentoring networks.
SMALL GROUP FACULTY DEVELOPMENT BOOK WORKSHOP, HALF-DAY OR FULL DAY
Max 5 people. Lecture, guide to develop work plans, and discussion (4 hours half day or 8 hours full day). Designed for university centers, colleges of arts and sciences, our foundation programs that host intensive writing retreats for nonfiction research.
LARGE GROUP LECTURE, FACULTY DEVELOPMENT BOOK DISCUSSION
Max 30 people (2 hours). Designed for faculty development centers, writing fellowship programs at humanities centers, foundation mentoring programs, and centers/colleges of arts and sciences that host faculty book manuscript workshops.
